Headphone not detected in Rekordbox - DDJ RB

All morning I have been trying to connect my headphones to my DDJ RB with no luck :( I simply cannot seem to find my headphone which is plugged into the controlled in the audio settings. when speaking to friends with similar controllers they say their headphone have been automatically picked up and they have never had to go into settings.

- I am on Mac
- I have attempted two different types of headphones
- everything else is working correctly
