Looking for advice using a CDJ setup - no playback

Hi,

I've been trying to use CDJ's but i can't get them to play anything. My knowledge of music tech equipment isn't very good (I know I sound stupid). I used a Pioneer DDJ-SR for a while but wanted to learn without a laptop screen. I have 2 CDJ 400's, a DJM 700 and Sandisk USB sticks. I uploaded the files from my laptop folder to the USB's, then inserted them into the CDJ's. I can scroll through tracks, but when i press play or cue, the CDJ locks to the first/second track on the USB and then i can't do anything. None of the tracks BPM's are coming up either. Please note that none of the equipment came with instructions due to purchasing secondhand. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

 Regards,

  Adam

**UPDATE** - I've just been reading through an online manual and the equipment has not come with control cables.

Hi Adam,

You mention you have uploaded files from your laptop to your USB but did you this through RekordBox or just copy some audio files straight to the USB stick.

It's always worth making sure you have updated the firmware on your CDJs to the latest stable version.

I am not sure what you mean when you refer to control cables. It would be helpful if you posted a picture of how you have your equipment connected up.

Okay. I've read some online manuals, and managed to get music playing from both CDJ's. My issue now is that the master volume does not affect the volume at all, so i have to control the audio through the trim knobs. Also, none of the effects seem to be working, no matter how much i alter the depth or time.

 Regards,

 Adam

*If you would still like a pic i can send one*

The Master Volume only applies to the Master Output.

As a new DJ, your first line of defense should always be the user manual.

CDJ-400 user manual.

DJM-700 user manual.
