ddj rz buttons not controlling rekordbox

hi
i have just unpacked my ddi-rz and cannot get it to work with recordbox at all.
i previously had a ddi-sx and had downloaded the trial to have a play and all worked great.
but since plugging in the rz it won't control rekordbox at all. I've tried deleting everything pioneer i can find on the computer and re downloading both the rekordbox software and the ddi-rz driver with no luck
the computer sees the ddi and says connected in the setting utility but on opening rekordbox none of the controls work. and does not populate midi parameters.
i am on a macbook pro on osx yosemite 10.10.
