CDJs/XDJs "losing" proper BPM readout after upgrade to Rekordbox 5

I had this happen two nights in a row. Once on CDJ2000s, the next on XDJ1000s.

I'm playing and everything is fine, and suddenly the gear starts reading the BPMs incorrectly. So let's say I am playing at 132 and suddenly I load a track and I have them beatmatched but the BPM reads 136 or 145. So it's not CHANGING the BPMs thankfully, but the readout is incorrect.

This is the first time I have encountered this, and it has only happened since I upgraded to Rekordbox 5.

It is solvable in the moment by rebooting the CDJ/XDJ and re-reading the drive (sometimes you need to have two drives if the one linked is exhibiting the behavior). I had it happen with multiple drives multiple times last night on the XDJs.

Do you have the latest firmware on the players themselves?

djshiva

They were two different sets of players at two different clubs. I have no way to know.

djshiva

But I can tell you that these were the first uses of the drives with music exported from Rekordbox 5.

Pulse

It would help to know -- simply open the UTILITY menu and it will be displayed within.

djshiva

I can ask one person but the other was a club I have never played at before across the country. I don't own the CDJs, nor am I in the same city as them.

Sorry, I can't help resolve this particular situation without those details. My recommendation would be to carry a USB drive with current firmware for any players you might encounter so you could update them as needed.

djshiva

I did find out that the XDJs had 1.3 firmware (not latest update). But as a touring DJ, I have little control over firmware updates. So if your advice is "update the firmware", that's a big "DUH", but not particularly helpful given how touring DJs use Rekordbox.

djshiva

And reminder that this never happened before until I started using Rekordbox 5.

djshiva

Yeah, I am sure a firmware update in the middle of a club night is super easy. No bigs, right?

Whatev. Will load up a drive with the firmware updates for literally everything just in case.

Did this happen with all exported tracks or ONLY tracks that had been exported with rekordbox 5 (and do you happen to know which version analysed those tracks)?

djshiva

I had to reanalyse everything after a computer death, so all of them were analysed in RB5 and I used sync manager to put them on the drive.

Pulse

How many of the tracks on the drive were already on there from before the RB5 switch?

djshiva

None. Reformatted both drives.
