major audio issues when switching out of rekordbox using DDJ-800

If I'm running rekordbox and DDJ-800, switching to another application like messenger, web browser, etc will usually cause audio to stop working, sounds completely chopped up. problem doesn't go away when I switch back to rekordbox, but if I toggle PC master out audio goes back to normal.

latest version of rekordbox 6.6.5
