HELP!! Songs stopping mid-track... for no apparent reason!!
Hi, I was playing a set on Saturday night using my CDJ2000's and i was in the mix, when the music on both decks simultaneously stopped. Both screens lost track info immediately and the screens simply read 'Not Loaded'. I tried to drag another song from my rekordbox library to deck 1 then deck 2, both times the decks were non-responsive (apart from the light around the cursor wheel flashing). I had to restart my MacBook, CDJ's AND Ethernet Switch before i could resume!!.. It then happened again, and again. I have since set-up at home again and it is still happening continuously.
CDJ 2000's - Firmware 4.10
RekordBox - 1.5.3
MacBook Pro - Lion
Regular Behringer DJX700 Mixer
All linked Via Ethernet Cables and Switch.
I am really stressing as i have 2 sets to play on Friday, then one on Saturday, but will obviously have to cancel and lose the money and potential bookings because of something out of my control, very frustrating!
Regards and Thanks in Advance,
Dean Micheli

Make sure your wireless is turned off, I have had (in testing at home) my wireless interfere with the ethernet and RB thinks you are using wireless now and not the ether port.
look whats in your network window, system prefs/network, make sure you only have normal connections in there like wifi, thernet, firewire and bluetooth, sometimes a location will be added like a PPPoE for stuff like cell phone tethering and this will 100% interfere will RB, again, this is from experience of what I have went through when RB first released the LINK feature. the network window should look like the pic I have attached, but like I said, you can have a couple of more maybe like bluetooth and/or firewire. Maybe it will help too in that same area to hit the settings gear at the bottom next to the + and - and "set service order" so ethernet is at the top of the list for priority when in use
check all cables, wiggle them back and forth, in and out and make sure they hold the connection to the switch, Some cables do not sit in right on the back of the 2000's so with some wiggling, they disconnect even though they still looked plugged in
Most likely, I thing its with the network settings or config on the Macbook
I also, to speed up connections, have set a static IP in the ethernet connections for the decks to see quicker instead of waiting for DHCP to give an address to the laptop, Being that i only use the ethernet port for RB, I don't care that a static is set, keep in mind though that if you go to use the ethernet port later to get online, you have to set the port back to DHCP, you can do this by:
1 connect everything up, go to network setting and click on ethernet, you will see a DHCP address of something like 169.254.90.102
highlight and copy that address, or write it down
click on the configure IP drop down and choose manually boards the bottom
paste or type that address in and make sure the subnet still reads the 255 address, hit apply and you are all set
Now if you pull the ethernet from the laptop and plug it back in, the RB LINK icon will appear 10x faster because the mac is addressed, you don't have to wait for one to be given
Wow, thank you for the timely response. I will go through all those points tomorrow as it is almost 3:30am and I'm off to catch some Z's... I'll post an update shortly.
Thank You again
anytime, good luck
also made a post with ways to have the wireless auto disable when using RB, may be helpful for some
http://forums.pioneerdj.com/entries/21269677-cool-mac-app-if-you-use-rekordbox-with-link-live-will-disable-wireless-for-you
Awesome.. Sorted!! I can't thank you enough, such a relief. I think the link (above) you posted re WiFi auto-disable is bad. I have a message popping up saying that I don't have access or it may have been deleted :-/ would be grateful if you could re-post. Cheers
nice, what was the issue?
I pulled the link because the app was buggy, you can however create an automator action that will disable wifi every time you open RB, that could be a pain though if you use rb a lot at home to organize
As ridiculous as it sounds It was just a case of me disabling the WiFi. I've had the same set-up at home for 8 months and have never encountered the problem before so, as simple as it is, it's kinda strange. It also still doesn't explain why it happened in the club the other night, i guess there just must have been external interference from some sort of device.
I'm think i will continue to manually disable WiFi as and when for the reasons you stated, it'd become a bit of a pain in the backside if i lost WiFi everytime i opened RB to organise i guess... plus, it's no big deal disabling WiFi anyhow, it's not like it's some major operation, i'm sure i'll manage :)
You've been a big help, i am very grateful.
no problem man, glad I was able to help ya out
I had almost the same issue happen to me the other day, only it was with 4 CDJ2000's connected to a switch, no laptop in the mix. Lost the link connection twice during the night, once with a pretty big name DJ using the gear. Needless to say, I'm working on getting the ethernet switch replaced, but I'm not 100% sure that was the problem. Any thoughts?
@jayDJ130 > What model switch were you using? Was any error displayed on screen when the fault occurred? Are you using Rekordbox to prepare your tracks?
If you have more than 1 network interface enabled (eg. wired and wireless), RekordBox can get a bit cross and won't let you Link over any of them.
