My regular CDJ-2000 "home" interface (the one that should show categories) does not show up

My regular CDJ-2000 "home" interface (the one that should show categories like playlists, search, etc) does not show up when I plug in my pen drive with processed music and playlists via Rekordbox.

The problem doesn't happen consistently, it is kind of random. For instance at certain times it shows correctly but other times when I connect the pen drives it doesn't show the correct screen. I have formated my pen drives as FAT-32 as recommended. I did an upgrade to the latest CDJ firmware and the issue persists.

Sometimes I have to turn off the CD player and on again and that helps bring up the correct screen (but not always...)

I have tried to connect an older pen drive and it seems to work OK consistently, not sure what the difference is as I have checked all the preferences for the pen drive in Rekorbox. The only difference I have found is that somehow RB doesn't seem to be adding the PIONEER folder in the root directory of the older drive... (See attached image of the OSX finder).

I am using Lexar pen drives (128GB and 64GB)

I am attaching images showing the correct screen I am talking about the the one where it is a problem (the blue one showing USB folder only).

Can anyone at Pioneer please help?

Pulse

It could be that the export database has become corrupt; please try reformatting the drive and export your songs / playlists again. If the problem persists, please post your export database, found in the PIONEER folder on that USB drive.

Illich Mujica

Thanks for replying Pulse. By the export database, do you mean the .dat file in the Pioneer folder? I see one called MYSETTINGS.DAT, is that it?

Illich Mujica

Also, I have formatted the drive a couple of times and have tried loading playlists by both, using the itunes sync manager functionality and by right clicking on a playlist and using the export to drive function of RB. In both instances the problem persists.

Here are the files I think might be helpful

Pulse

It was the export.pdb file - thanks.

Does it happen with both the 64 and 128GB drive? Have you had the same problem using a USB2 drive or a drive 32GB or smaller?

Illich Mujica

The stable pen drive is a 64GB USB 2 type. Do you think the higher capacity drives might be the issue?

Illich Mujica

By the way the higher capacity 128 GB drives are USB 3

Pulse

Not certain, just trying to establish more details.

Illich Mujica

I will re-format the 64GB drive again and reload the same info I'm loading on the higher capacity ones tonight. Will get back to you. Let me know what you find out from the export.pdb files. Thanks!

Illich Mujica

Pulse, the USB 2 / 64 GB pen drive is stable. I would hate to think that the bigger size pen drive is the issue as I spent money already on a couple of USB 3 / 128 GB drives.

The 128 GB sometimes work correctly sometimes don't, it really is a crap shoot. Any other ideas of what could be going on here? Have you gotten any clues form the export.pdb file? Thanks so much for your help.

Pulse

Sorry, no info yet - the engineers will need a couple of days. Thanks for reporting back on that.

Illich Mujica

Pulse, I re-partitioned and re-formatted my drive, re-loaded my music collection and still having issues. I am uploading the export.pdb in this post. Let me know if it is helpful. Thanks so much!

I am also reading on this thread that pen drives should be maximun of 32 GB. Is this an issue, reading speed of pen drives?

Pulse

Not necessarily, but engineers are looking in to your issue.

I've passed along the information and database, if they have any other questions I'll let you know.

Illich Mujica

OK, thank you Pulse. I highly appreciate it!

Pulse

Can you tell me the make & model numbers for the drives you have tested?

Illich Mujica

I have tested the 128 GB and 64 GB versions of this Lexar drive. The 64 GB is stable, however I haven't loaded all the music into it:

Pulse

Not that I'm blaming the drive (or you for buying it), but those don't exactly seem to be the most "performance oriented" USB drives offered by Lexar, and some less expensive USB flash drives use cheap chipsets which can be problematic.

Thanks for sending the link - I'll pass it along to the engineers.

Unfortunately it's virtually impossible to make a list of "qualified" or "approved" USB devices as there are so many variants internationally, but if we're able to narrow down some of the offending drives we can steer users away from them.

Illich Mujica

So, do you think it is the model of the brand of drive and not the capacity of it?

Pulse

It could simply be that a specific chipset has been used to address memory capacities larger than 32GB and as a result there is a problem with those models but not the 32GB and smaller ones. This is simply speculation based on the information the engineers have provided.

Illich Mujica

So which brands and models does Pioneer recommend for 64 GB and higher Pulse?

Pulse

Per above, there's no list of recommended drives due to the sheer number of available models from the vast number of manufacturers. Sorry.

Illich Mujica

Pulse (and everyone else), I am happy to announce that I upgraded my pen drive to the following brand and model:

http://www.lexar.com/flash-drives/jumpdrive-p20?category=207

I formated the drive twice as recommended by Pioneer and it is working flawlessly. I just started testing but so far this drive is working well in terms of a 128GB. If you don't hear back from me it means it is working well. If I encounter any problems I will come back to this thread to share my findings. Thanks so much Pulse for your help. Highly appreciated!

Pulse

Cool - please let us know how it goes!

Illich Mujica

Will do, and another additional piece of information. I got the drive last Friday for $110 and by today when I went to get a second one the price had already dropped to $80. =)
