Rekordbox playlist creation on external HD

Hi,

I currently handle ALL my itunes music / rekordbox files on an external  regular hd. All tunes are organized in iTunes and then I pull them to Rekordbox for analysis / cue points / grids etc.

I use an ssd to export all my playlists for use on cdjs.

Question:

if I migrate ALL the music on the external regular hd to an ssd, if I create my rekordbox playlists here instead of the old ssd, will the music files be duplicated or they will just be indexed so I can use the master drive with my cdjs?

Thx in advance....

My recommendation: clone the HD > SSD. Give it the same name. Both rekordbox and iTunes will have no issues with it, and there will be no duplicates.

Pepe Camil

Thx Pulse. Yeah, that was my idea.

BUT (there is always a but...)

When I create the playlists on that ssd, will the music files be duplicated?

Pulse

Back in rekordbox 4, yes, but they fixed that so if the source and export location are the same, it links them, so no duplicate files and INSTANT "exports"!

NIIIIIIIIIICE!

Now I need a venue to play my 3tb of music accrued since the 2000's!

Thx man. Appreciated!

Pulse

That's too much music. lol

Hey Pulse,

The odyssey is not over... just recieved the 4tb drive... I cant format in MBR. I saw that MBR is not supported in drives 4tb and up...

Can I use another format scheme? Or am I screwed?

Cheers,

P

Pulse

MBR is only necessary for a drive that will be used to update the firmware; you can use GPT for that.

Pepe Camil

Just to clarify:

The 4tb SSD that will be used to load ALL my insane amount of music will be used also to load my playlists on the cdj 3000. That SSD can be formatted tn GPT? I remember that MBR was NECESSARY to use with cdjs...

Also, FAT32 or HFS+..? What do you recommend?

Thx

Pulse

Nope - GPT can be used ... and go with HFS+ (Journaled). :)
