Ive been using my players without any problems lately. Just today, I turned on one of the players and Im getting e-7001 disk drive error. 
I dont use cd, just rekordbox. The players works perfectly, I can even play cds, usb, music from rekordbox.

Any ideas here on what to look? Shipping it to service is not an option

An E-7001 is a disc drive error, but unfortunately nobody here is authorized to provide instructions on disassembly, modification, or repair of your CDJ. Please contact a Pioneer DJ authorized service centre in your region to have your hardware inspected and/or repaired.
