DDJ 1000 mic inputs too loud & feedback easily

I tried my DDJ1000 controller this weekend & was using both mic inputs with two different wireless microphones and both inputs were extremely loud & would get feedback easily. I couldn't put the volume not even to a quarter of the way. Does anyone know what might be causing this.
