XLR Mic 1 not working on my DDJ RZ

So I just bought a XLR Mic and i pluged it in and its not working I cant hear it at all anywhere all of the knobs are up and everything. I tried the TRS jack with my phone and it worked but sounded awful. The XLR mix is not powered in anyway does that matter. I assume the DDJ RZ would take care of that. If someone know what I'm doing wrong please help me if you can.
