When should the club setup menu be played with?

Im using my djm900 nxs with serato dj and want to record with audacity. What recommended settings should be good so that the sound quality coming from the mixer into audacity be good? I seen in a video that they change the 96 khz to 48khz and set the UsB output level to -5? What exactly does that do in regards to the sound from the mixer to speakers? Does it make it louder or not? Any help understanding the correct settings for audacity and what the usb output level does would be greatly appreciated

You can follow the steps listed here, although this focuses on a DJM-2000, the same settings should be applied.

Ok, but i have a question. Would changing my output level to -5db will that make my mixer overall louder when raising the master level or gains, then when in the default -19db? Thanks

Does that change when doing so in the utility settings or does it have to take place in the club setup menu?

Clarification: Changing the output level doesn't affect the MASTER output, only the DIGITAL output.

To clarify a bit here for you... that setting you saw in the video was regarding configuring the USB output level for recording to software; it has nothing to do with the master output, or the digital output of the mixer.

i always wonder why the digital Outs of the djms are that light.

with that light leveled spdif Output there is a dynamic loss... now i know how to raise the spdif Level, thanks!

..i meant not dynamic loss,...one can't simly use the Mixers full dynamic range with low Level on the spdif :-)

There's more than enough dynamic range while maintaining a 19dB overhead.
