CDJ not recognizing seagate hard drive even after I have exported from rekordbox

I have a seagate hard drive which is 1tb, i have formatted it to fat32 and exported my playlists on to it from rekordbox, i then connect it to my cdj 850 and choose a song i want to play and it just keeps coming up with usb error on the screen, it seems to be showing the songs i have exported on to it but for some reason is unable to play it, instead showing me a message saying usb error, please help.

Thanks in advance

Which model CDJ are you using?

Are you using the latest firmware version?

BriChi

if you are trying to power it over USB the 850 may not be able to supply enough power to get the drive to spin properly, trying using an external power source for the drive if it allows you or use a cable that has 2 usb ends, once for power and one for data and power to add more juice behind it, the power usb part you may have to plug into ur laptop or get an extender and plug it into the other CDJ

@James > It's likely a power issue, as @BriChi notes. What is the model of that Seagate drive?

James Ramadan

its a 1tb seagate and the model number is SRD0NF1 if that helps, thanks for all the replies, I think it probably is a power issue, will have to find the best solution for this

Hi James!!

I have the same problem ( I've posted here with details: https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115000016686-External-1TB-HDD-not-work-properly-on-CDJ850 )

My hdd work perfectly on a CDJ 350/2000 but not on a 850. What firmware you had installed on it? (i'm thinking to make a downgrade..maybe it's a software problem)

How you solved this?

Pulse

That drive is USB3, and while USB2 compatible, may draw too much power on start-up. Consider getting a USB Y-pigtail to provide additional power to the drive.

Pulse can you help me please with an old version of firmware ? (1.08 or 1.00)

I finally found the answer!! It's a known problem with the CDJ 850...and it's very simple: some of hard drives work, some don't. expect for that from Pioneer. i'm really disappointed.
And believe me, I searched for 2 weeks. I even went to a Pioneer Service Club. Together we made all the possible tests to conclude that.

So if you know a specific model that works please tell me!! i'm really struggling to find one that it works !!

Peace!
