DDJ 400 doesn't stay powered with new USB C to B adapter (from Apple)

DDJ 400 doesn't stay powered with new USB C to B adapter (from Apple). When I connect the USB cable (from DDJ unit to Mac–Powerbook, Mohave OS) it lights up for about 2 seconds then the lights go out except the ON/OFF RELEASE FX button and both HOT CUE (red) buttons. I can hear the music and the software works fine...but the unit does not work.
