Ddj 1000 problems

I'm having several issues with my ddj 1000 the main problem though when I select a tune its playing straight away have to stop it then when I use the hotque pads instead of it selecting the que point and the using the que button and play it just plays, so I have to just use these pads as my start button I'm not a techy person so I'm hoping it's something easy I've probably missed when getting started
