Where do my samples goes?

HI guys...

odd question, after i record and save a sample from an external source, after i save it and name it, if i don't use the replace option....where actually my sample goes? I can only save it for the current project/track? I can't just save it and recall it later for a different project?? I cant find them but of course they are present in the project.
