DDJ RX Distorted/Crackly audio

This evening I set up my brand new DDJ-RX and immediately I noticed the audio output on both the master out and the headphone out distorts fairly significantly. Although it was the same through both of these outputs I tested it with new phono to phono cables to my amp and tested on a different channel but the symptoms persisted. (Another device plays fine with the same setup through its master out).
Ive also tested the ddj rx with a different USB cable of the same type, same issue, two different USB ports on the Mac, tested all channels on the controller and installed all relevant firmware and software updates. I also double checked everything that it suggests in the help section i.e. Checking trim and master levels are not peaking excessively. Have I got a DOA unit or could there be something else going on that I'm missing?
I'm using the controller with a 13 inch 2012 MacBook Pro with OS X 10.10.5 installed.

Have you tried to increase Buffer Size from Preferences>Audio?

Daniel Hobbs

Thanks for your response, I'll try that later once I'm home from work.
Is there anything else you think it could be? I think I've tried everything other than the audio buffer, although thinking about it that could well be the issue.
