[SOLVED] XDJ-R1 Waveforms
Firstly, the new XDJ-R1 looks like a great product at a great price!
With all the advanced features it has I was just surprised to find it doesn't show any waveforms, even a simple one like on the CDJ850s (and this seems to be many other peoples reaction on other forums and review sites)
I don't suppose anyone from the pioneer team can confirm it's a possibility in the future and my be looked into??
I know it looks like I'm moaning about something that hasn't even been released yet! But apart from this small thing it looks like an amazing piece of kit :D

This has been asked in other more general threads, but I have not seen a definitive response as to whether this will be handled by either the R1 or in the Remotebox app, or even possible given the R1's CPU capability.
A number of folks have asked for this capability, especially native on the R1 itself, but it seems more natural to bounce the waveform into the app and let it handle the feature (though I thoroughly despise having to carry extra hardware to a gig, having the x-y pad effects is pretty cool and better than my old kaoss which I stopped using so there's that.)
I know I've seen it as comments in other posts.
I really hope it can be done, especially on the hardware, even a simple one.
It would be nice if someone from Pioneer could confirm if its possible, even if its a definite no, never. At least that would nip it in the bud as I'm sure many people will start opening threads asking this question.
Yeah definitely! To be honest I'm most looking forward to using it to browsing the tracks! Thats what I missed most from when I used to use traktor, when I went back to CDJs the little displays on the 850s meant track selection (without artwork in my case, which is how I recognize most my tracks) was a little harder that it used to be.
+1 on this topic. It is a make or break feature for me and clarification from Pioneer is required if they want to me to buy this product.
related to this, I asked on one of the official product youtube vids about being able to select from cue memories or at least displaying them (the thought being that if the cuepoints at least appear on the remotebox app, they can at least be set in rekordbox at breakdowns, fills, etc.)
Personally, I'd rather have the progress bar be a waveform, AND see as well as use cue points I set. And by rather, I mean this drives my purchase decisions...
I agree, I'd have happily paid more to see this feature added!
... could Gavin or Pulse comment?
"its possible, maybe in the future", or "can never be done" at least we'll know then and the thread can be closed :)
*bump*
please can we get a response?
@Brett > I'll try to get an answer for you ASAP.
thank you Gavin =]
+1 on this thread.......
Another hot item regarding the use of the full functionality......wil remotebox getting available for Android devices??
I have a high-end 10" tablet running android and it would be stupid to purchase an ipad for several hundred bucks only for the extra's on this device.
It stranges me how Pioneer lacks on comments on these many asked questions, Do they even know what they are selling or what??
It's been over a week, any news?
Surely they know whether there's a possibility that it can be added... or not if that's the case!?
For now no waveforms, if requested enough then future consideration could be there but it would take a revamp that may raise the price point to much. As for Android, I would expect shortly.
what happens with the 10K track limit if you go over, do they not display over 10K or does the deck just get very slow when browsing?
Ok thanks djjay! A couple of follow up questions then...
Firstly how should the community make this request? Because I'm sure Gavin and the team wont want people repeatedly opening new threads requesting this feature, especially when previous ones have been closed.
Secondly I appreciate that it would raise the price, which may be too late to implement, but could it be possible to pay for an advanced firmware update? Maybe other requested features, that may be seen as too advanced for the current price could also be added. (Although I'm only bothered about the waveforms). Given the great price for this unit I know I'd be willing pay a fair bit for that update, I'm sure others would too!
Thanks again for your reply =]
I want all 10 cue memories and waveforms.
Honestly, I don't understand why it's so freakin' difficult to bounce the waveform bitmap that is generated by rekordbox (stored on the usb) to the pad device and use it as the background image for the progress bar. I've spent over 20yrs in systems development, and this stuff really is trivial.
10 cue points would mean it wouldn't reflect the hardware though
Also personally I'd prefer the waveforms on the actual players themselves (just basic ones)
Wouldn't complain about it being on the app too though
Improved features, if posible, will come out whenever they can get around to putting them in. Thanks for your input.
