XDJ-RX USB Very High Initial Load Time
So I just bought an XDJ-RX to use when I'm playing a gig that's too small for me to lug around my CDJNXS2/DJM900NXS2 setup. Let's be clear- I love my CDJ setups but when I'm playing in a bad area in the city or the DJ stand is not big enough for them, I can't use em.
The XDJ-RX thus far has not given me the best feeling. First, I found that my 1TB SSD that I've been traveling around with for the past 6 months using in CDJ2000's & CDJ900's does not work on the XDJ-RX. Literally, I connect drive to the XDJ-RX via the USB slot on top and the lights blink for about 5 seconds before I get a "Rekordbox database could not be found." Well, that's not true. So this must mean the USB driver on this device might be completely inferior to the one in the CDJ2000NXS2? How frustrating.
Okay, so I go get another SSD. This time I get one that I absolutely know works with it because it was recommended from another DJ friend. I put my rekordbox database onto it and plug it in. I timed how long it took between me plugging in the USB cable and it finally showing me a list of playlists/folders. An entire minute elapsed. I'm being told by other DJs (specifically the DJ that recommended this particular brand of SSD) that this is absurd.
I've upgraded the firmware with no success on either my old drive nor my new drive. It's within the 14 day return window for guitar center. Should I return it? What am I missing? I've got too many friends ranting and raving about this thing to think that it's really the device itself. The new SSD that I bought has extremely fast write/read times. I was literally able to write 7k tracks onto it within 15 minutes.

@Corey > Your 1TB drive may not work if it draws more power than the USB port on the XDJ-RX provides. Perhaps you might try using a Y-cable with the second lead connected to a power adapter.
As for the read time of your SSD, 7000 songs would certainly load faster than 1 minute, so I wonder if it's either the drive or how you have it formatted. Can you please provide that information?
@Pulse, thanks so much for your quick response. The 1TB drive which is not working is an SSD. In hopes that it may have been a lack of power, I did plug in a Y-cable and plugged the second USB portion into a wall adapter. Still the same result- the usb light blinks for a small number of seconds before eventually telling me "Rekordbox database was not found..."
Both drives are formatted using the Journaled Mac filesystem option. I'm looking at the contents of the drives and they both appear to have the exact same contents.
The 1TB SSD is a Samsung Evo and the 480gb drive (the one that appears to work but has a very slow 1min startup time) is a SanDisk Extreme 500. The weird thing is that my entire collection exports to the SanDisk drive in about 15 minutes vs a few hours on the Samsung drive. From what i can tell the SanDisk drive is blazing fast. The Samsung drive isn't slow, per say, but it certainly takes more than 15 minutes to export my whole collection to it.
The thing I find strange is that the Samsung drive works without problem in every Rekordbox enabled CDJ which I have tried it in. I've gigged with it multiple times per week for the past 5 months.
The SanDisk drive is very strange as far as the initial boot time is concerned. The track load time is very much near instant. I mean, I've seen others complain about track load times on the XDJ-RX but the SanDisk is lightening fast- it's less than a second for sure.
Is that Evo in an enclosure, and if so, who makes it / model?

Just for reference, as I'm not sure exactly what is entailed in the "boot up" of a USB device, here's the contents of my .PIONEER folder on the SanDisk Extreme 500 drive:

I honestly cannot see how 5mb would take that long to load- assuming that's the only file which is loaded upon startup.
maybe the drive's file format is wrong? - big drives are rarely formatted FAT32 which I believe is the only format that the RX can read

From what I have read- that's actually not true. In firmware update 1.50 the Mac extended file system was supported on the XDJ-RX. Also, it supports just fine the other drive which I have formatted using Mac Extended File System. I don't think this is the case.

@Corey > I use an Evo 850 in an Inateck enclosure, formatted HFS+ and have no issues with any of the players reading my drvie. I'm guessing it may be a compatibility issue with the drive manager chipset in that enclosure.
Regarding the SanDisk unit, given that the only SanDisk unit I've ever been confident enough to recommend is the Extreme Pro USB flash drive, it's entirely possible that the Extreme 500 falls under the "potentially problematic" category. (This is anecdotal through my own experience, not an official Pioneer DJ statement on compatibility of SanDisk products.)
Thanks for your report. I just bought an SanDisk Extreme 2TB because I was having the same issues with an SeaGate Barracuda 2TB 2.5inch with an External Enclosure. The HFS+ formatted took FOREVER TO LOAD like whopping 5 or 10 minutes (due to my large library 1TB). My XDJ-RX2 wouldn't even blink the reading light while loading the whole library.
With FAT32 format the loading time would be MUCH faster, though I didn't test on the whole library loaded (1TB). But indeed is much faster.
