If I am linking NXS2 units to an older NXS unit, will it work and behave properly? What features are limited to the NXS2's over the NXS unit?

Yes, it will work no problem.

Nothing will be missing, the NXS2 simply has a few more things available on it than the NXS unit does, but there are no limitations.
