can't move master database to external drive in Rekordbox 6

I did a fresh install of Rekordbox 6 and am trying to point the master database to an external drive that I have and take with me on the road. After the prompt warning that it might take a long time, the entire program stops responding entirely. Sometimes with a status bar that freezes, sometimes not at all. Please help.
