Rekordbox BPM and KEY import/export

With Rekordbox v6.8.4 the import or export of some ID tags in audio files does still not work correct.

The tag KEY = %initialkey% is used fully correct for import and export. Good!
The tag BPM is apparently totally ignored for import AND export. Bad!

Other ignored or not saved tags are not so relevant, at least for some users.

One of the biggest drawbacks with Rekordbox is, that after import, no file name changes are possible both with Rekordbox itself nor with other relevant DAM software. But this is another topic. So Rekordbox is somekind a one-way or dead-end street regarding file and metadata import.

rekordbox doesn't use BPM information written in the Tag, because BPM is fully associated with the beatgrid analyzed itself.

Gabriel,

Thank you for this information. Nevertheless, the export would be good, because external database tools could show, sort and filter BPM and other details. The same is quite relevant e.g. also for ratings and color. Not only Rekordbox, but also other DJ tools are "hiding" the details about metadata, which is ignored, imported only, exported only or synced in both directions in audio files. There is a very good reason for external database tools, because some DJ don't always want to import thousands of files.

Customers can investigate the metadata situation by trial and error. However, this is time-consuming and may change with Rekordbox updates.

I know ID3 is partially a mess and incompatiblities can occur. Similar to EXIF and XMP data in image files. However, good information about the handling of metadata and associated file extensions would create trust and be customer-friendly. Is there any official and clearly summarised information on this subject?

If the BPM does need to be associated somehow to the beatgrid, it is fully OK that it is not imported from ID3 metadata. So the user has to correct BPM and beatgrid in Rekordbox if necessary. But BPM is included as one value per track in the XML export. Why then not just also in the ID3 export? And from the XML file the BPM is updated, when BPB is modified in the XML file and reloaded in Rekordbox. That is a contradiction.
