XDJ RX3 not reading USB for firmware update

I just bought a new XDJ RX3 and am trying to update the Firmware to get it to work. I have a Macbook pro 2019 OSX 10.15.7 I have downloaded the Firmware onto my Mac and unzipped it.

First attempt: When I unzip the frimware file I get a file named XDJRX3.UPD. When I connect the RX3 to my Mac, th RX3 asks me to update the firmware and when I click "start" it brings up a window to select the firmware file but the file is invisible. However, when I look at the folder just using the Finder App in mac I can see the file.. 

Second attempt: I moved the file XDJRX3.UPD onto a USB stick and insert it into the RX3 and then insert it into USB port 1 of the device, and then restart the device holding "USB Stop" and Reloop/Exit" down, my RX3 screen show "Connect USB storage device into the to USB1 port", even though the USB stick is in that port.  Could it be the USB stick formatting? I formatted it as ExFAT. When i tried to format it as MS-DOS (FAT) the stick became invisibe to my Mac.
