Rekordbox advice on closing down

Hi - I am going to sound a complete twat for not knowing this but I need to ask

My music files are on a external Seagate as the music files are rather large.

I know how to back up my my files but it's the correct method for closing down with an external drive is the problem, it can cause corruption to all the data.

So please can someone tell me how to close Rekorbox and the external drive the correct way.
