Stand Alone or Export Mode

I wanted to know if anyone has experience with using the RX3 in both performance mode and in Export mode and what your thoughts are of the pros and cons to each way. Does having a large music library 50,000+ work better using the RX3 with a laptop or if using a smaller condensed library 5,000 tracks in Performance mode? 

If using a laptop with the RX3 do the waveforms display on the RX3 as well? Also could I use the laptop with the RX3 and close the lid and "put it away" out of sight and just use the RX3 to DJ for the event without the need to touch the laptop but still be connected? So esentially using the laptop as an external HD but gain the speed for searching a large library.

I'm asking because I have a large library and I could purchase a laptop or I could curtail my large library to a "best of" library and use the RX3 in stand alone and not lose any performance this way.
