Opus Quad tempo slider and BEAT FX knob questions

Just bought the Opus Quad and I have some initial questions:

1. I noticed that the BEAT FX Select knob is quite "sturdy" when you turn it. Does this sound familiar with you guys and is it normal?

2. There seems to be no "dead area" for the tempo slider. How do you guys work with this? Of course you can push the reset button and the silder will then also be at "default/zero", but once you press reset again (so disable it) 9 out of 10 times it did not put the silder peerfectly in the middle with the consequence that the tempo is off. Let s say you use the wide setting for the tempo you will really hear this when playing. How do you guys cope with this?
