I have recently bought this controller of a friend with the original box, when i plug it in i am met with the issue of having to upgrade my plan? is there anyway of using this product without upgrading my plan?

Are you using your DDJ-RB with rekordbox 7?
If that is the case, please bear in mind that the DDJ-RB is not fully compatible with the latest version of the software, so please try installing version 6 and see if you can use your DJ controller as hardware unlock device.
