DDJ-WeGo4 works with iPhone, not with Macbook

Hello,

I decided to dust off my WeGO4 and try and connect it to my macbook to play music in my room. When I plug it in via usb to usb-c, and then turn on the controller (or the other way around, i've tried every single combination), the controller turntables flash red and no audio plays through the system. I downloaded java and the firmware updater, but when I run the firmware update it says that I'm not connected to a controller. 

Any help would be appreciated.
