Tracks crashing in Rekordbox

For the last year or so, tracks I play in Rekordbox slow down and "crash" with aggressive distortion. This happens on average every few minutes and lasts anywhere from 2 to 5 seconds. I am running the latest software (5.8.7) and have uninstalled and reinstalled the RB app.

This problem is not specific to any tracks and happens with all of them. My tracks are MP3s purchased through Beatport and analysed in RB. It has made RB borderline unusable for me.

When I play live I do so via a USB that I load via RB and thankfully never encounter this issue. However, I have started recording mixes in a studio using CDJs and a DJM-09 mixer and connecting my laptop using a "USB A to B" lead.

On two recent occasions I recorded 90 minute mixes only to find the same extreme distortion occurred during the recording, only once on each occasion (in minute 5 the first time, in minute 1 the second).

How does one resolve this issue?
