I've registered my FLX4 and am on the Free Plus plan, but would like to use a smaller, non-Pioneer controller in certain situations. However I am unable to use the other controller unless the FLX4 is physically plugged in.

Since I've registered an official controller that I paid for, surely I wouldn't need to physically bring the FLX4 just to use as a MIDI unlock dongle right?

You cannot use another controller that is not a hardware unlock device for rekordbox. 

Only if you have a paid plan. (ie Core Plan or higher plan)
