Feature Request: Playlist-Specific Memory & Hot Cues

This feature has been requested multiple times since 2015. I believe it's still highly relevant and would save DJs like myself a significant amount of time and effort.

The Problem

As a DJ, I use memory cues and hot cues as visual and functional guides to help with mixing - marking intro/outro points, transition zones, kill points, etc. However, these cue points often vary depending on the context of the playlist or set I'm preparing.

Right now, Rekordbox only allows one set of cues per track, regardless of how many playlists it's in. So when I reuse a track in a new set and need different cue points, I have to manually reposition them - and worse, that change affects every other playlist that uses the same track. This creates three major issues:

  • Preparing large sets becomes time-consuming and error-prone.

  • I lose cue data for previous sets.

  • If I forget to adjust a track cues for the current set, I get inaccurate visual feedback during performance.

The way I use memory and hot cues works great—as long as the cues match the intended mix. But as mentioned, what works in one playlist doesn’t always work in another.

Proposed Solution

Rekordbox stores track metadata - including cue points - in an SQLite database, with each track assigned a unique TrackID. Playlists reference this TrackID to load the track and its metadata.

Here's the idea:

  • Add an option in Rekordbox (e.g., right-click > "Make Unique").

  • This duplicates the track's database record, assigns a new TrackID, and ties it to the playlist.

  • The new version can then have its own set of memory/hot cues, without affecting other playlists.

No change is needed to the firmware of CDJs/XDJs unless you want to offer the "Make Unique" option directly on hardware too.

Benefits

  • Dramatically reduces prep time for complex or custom sets.

  • Eliminates risk of overwriting cues used in other playlists.

  • Enhances flexibility without cluttering the interface or breaking compatibility.

This small addition could make a huge difference in workflow efficiency for DJs who do a lot of custom set preparation.
