Rekordbox 7.2.7 USB Detection Issue — Quick Tech Note
Rekordbox 7.2.7 USB Detection Issue — Quick Tech Note
Rekordbox 7 changed how it identifies export drives. It now looks only for storage that mounts as a classic USB mass-storage device.
A Thunderbolt 3, 4, 5 cable can cause an external SSD to register as a PCI/TB device instead of a USB device. When this happens:
-
macOS sees the drive normally
-
Rekordbox shows it under “Computer”
-
Rekordbox does not show it under “Devices” for export
Switching to a USB-C cable forces the drive to register as a USB mass-storage device. Once that happens, Rekordbox picks it up instantly.
Summary
-
Thunderbolt cable = drive mounts as non-USB → Rekordbox 7 ignores it
-
USB-C cable = drive mounts as USB → Rekordbox 7 recognizes it
-
Rekordbox 6 doesn’t enforce this, which is why the same drive works there
Recommendation
Use a USB-C to USB-C cable when exporting playlists or preparing a drive for club gear. Keep one cable dedicated to Rekordbox work to avoid surprises.
