CDJ-2000NXS2: Needle Countdown off by one beat (early)
Hi all,
I’ve noticed what appears to be a consistent offset in the Needle Countdown on my CDJ-2000NXS2 and wanted to check if others have seen the same - and whether there’s a fix or workaround.
Test Setup:
-
Player: CDJ-2000NXS2
-
Firmware: v1.87
-
Media: USB with rekordbox-prepared tracks
-
Use Case: Setting a Needle Countdown marker at a drop point mid-track.
Observed Behaviour:
The Bar/Beat Countdown (next to the phase meter) normally counts down in the format bars.beats - e.g., “3.2” means 3 bars and 2 beats remaining until the next cue. The final bar displays: 0.4 → 0.3 → 0.2 → 0.1 → 0.0 at the drop.
However, when setting a Needle Countdown marker via the needle search strip, the countdown runs one beat early. Examples:
-
Shows “3.2” when the drop is actually at “3.3”
-
Shows “2.4” when the drop is really at “3.1”
-
Displays “0.0” one beat before the actual drop — not on the drop
This offset is consistent across tracks and both decks. It makes tight drops or countdown-based transitions unreliable.
I also found a post describing the same issue on the CDJ-3000, which suggests this might be a broader firmware quirk and not user error:
Questions:
-
Has anyone else seen this exact one-beat offset with Needle Countdown on the 2000NXS2 or any other model?
-
Is this a known bug acknowledged by Pioneer DJ / AlphaTheta?
-
Is there a workaround or setting to correct the display alignment?
-
Any chance this will be patched in a future firmware update, even though the model is no longer in production?
Appreciate any confirmations, insights, or fixes.
