DJ PLX-500 Platter too low?

I just got a brand new DJ PLX-500, I put it together and with the standard platter/matt and a record sitting on top of it the tone arm still slopes down on the lowest setting.  I read that the tone arm needs to be level for it to function properly.  Is this a manufacturing defect or is this normal?
