Rekordbox 7 – Unable to control gobos (Varytec Hero Spot 90) via DMX Direct Control

Hi everyone,

I’m running the following setup:

  • Controller: Pioneer DDJ-FLX10
  • Software: Rekordbox 7 (Lighting Mode)
  • Fixture: Varytec Hero Spot 90

Issue:
The gobos are not being controlled automatically by Rekordbox.

Additionally, I’m unable to control them via DMX Direct Control.

What I tried:

  • Set DMX channel to 9 (gobo channel)
  • Set value to 132
  • Toggled the control button on/off

Result:
No reaction at all from the fixture.
It feels like the DMX Direct Control signal is not being sent at all.

Additional note:
As far as I understand, there is no option to set a DMX address within DMX Direct Control – correct?

Questions

  • Is DMX Direct Control supposed to work without explicitly assigning a DMX address?
  • Has anyone successfully controlled gobos on this fixture (or similar) with Rekordbox?
  • Am I missing a required configuration step?

Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated!

Michael Schulz

Update / Solution:

I was able to get DMX Direct Control working.

The issue was that Rekordbox expects absolute DMX addressing, not just the fixture’s internal channel.

In my case:

  • Fixture start address: 300
  • Gobo channel: 9

➡️ So I had to use channel 308 (since address 300 = channel 1).

After setting the correct channel, the gobo control works as expected.

Remaining question:

Does anyone know why Rekordbox is not triggering the gobos automatically?
Is this related to the fixture profile or a limitation in the lighting library?
