XDJ-RX: USB media loading speed Stick/SSD/HDD - always nearly the same?
Hi,
I tested the average track loading speed from different USB media. Is there any special media recommended that maintain loading times below 0.5 secs?
With USB Stick: Kingston R20G2 DataTraveler 64GB USB 3.0:
Loading time with track search buttons, no Hot Cue loading: 1.2 sec
Loading time with browse load to deck, no defined Hot Cues: 1.2 sec
Loading time with browse load to deck, track has Hot Cues defined: 1.7 sec
With brand new USB SSD: SanDisk SDSSDP-128G-G25 with USB 3.0 case Innateck
Loading time with track search buttons, no Hot Cue loading: 1.0 sec
Loading time with browse load to deck, no defined Hot Cues: 1.0 sec
Loading time with browse load to deck, track has Hot Cues defined: 1.7 sec
With very old USB HDD: old 160GB SATA mit IcyBox USB 3 case:
Loading time with track search buttons, no Hot Cue loading: 1.2 sec
Loading time with browse load to deck, no defined Hot Cues: 1.3 sec
Loading time with browse load to deck, track has Hot Cues defined: 1.7 sec
It seems that there's no big difference and the bottleneck lies in the controller or/and its USB interface itself.
greetings from Sven

Hello,
Well i have a usb 3.0 64gb.
And well i have the xdj rx now for 5 days. updatet to newest firmware 1.50
But it would be nice if pioneer could make the some things faster on the xdj rx:
1: Booting up the machine, is taking some time when you press the on button.... maybe a update could make that just litle bit faster?
2: when i put my usb in it must ofcourse load. but when i select a song it takes some time when you finaly get the waveform( the big waveform) would also be nice if pioneer could update the speed overthere. becouse speed nowadays is everything. ofcourse only if it is possible.

For me it is most important to load the tracks fast. I wouldn't mind if the initial boot or USB-Stick loading time took longer to allow faster track waveform loading and improved track-searching (next/prev.-buttons) speed.
Things are almost as fast as they possibly can be due to the fact the initial load of the USB is mounting the database. Loading a track must load not only the audio, but the artwork and any hot cues and memory points as well.
The units are not USB3 - remember that the throughput of even a USB2.0 system is roughly 40MB/s, more than what's needed for running audio from a USB device.
The latency in seeking through the track is partly due to the decompression of the audio file. If you run AIFF or WAV you will notice quicker response on those functions.
oke,
but if the engineers could look if there they could make some speed improvements will be greaat
As noted, it's pretty much as fast as it gets.
First@Sven Hannawaldt Hi Man I want to thank you for this detailed study. Тhis will be very helpful for all of us. I like the speed of loading. Before buy my XDJ RX system i work with Stanton SCS4DJ & time for the boot of the device is 4.50 min with USB colections :) Thank you again for your experience !
