DJM S9 firmware update problem

I have a Macbook running El Capitan, trying to update the DJM S9 firmware to 1.06. I am in the update mode on the mixer, run the firmware update, and when selecting English language the error message says the mixer is not connected. I followed the firmware update guide, which says to uninstall the driver (1.1.2) and start the process again, which I have done many times without success. I contacted Pioneer twice with the issue, and they have reiterated in email the same instructions as the firmware update guide. 

Can anyone help?

There are specific instructions on how to upgrade the firmare they can be found on the pioneer website this is a direct link to the PDF file with the instructions.

There is a button combination that must be triggered to prepare the mixer for the update. I only know this because I had to do it for two mixers since I took my first one back. I am having a feedback noise issue with the DJM-S9 and serato seems to be a USB issue as it happens on internal mode too even if turntables aren't connected. My own post explains it more found here:
