Automatic integration of Traktor and Serato collection and playlists in Rekordbox

Dear Pioneer DJ Team,

If one of your goals is to grow market share with Rekordbox DJ in the market segment of DJ Software applications, I would suggest having a closer look into the Traktor and Serato community. We invest hours and weeks in setting up our crates and playlists. What is holding us back to move to Rekordbox? Not the features or the workflow, it is the barrier to move our collection with all the cues and loops into Rekordbox. Currently it is not possible, and all the workarounds are annoying, inconvenient and take much too much time.

If you do an in-depth customer journey analysis, you will see that you will lose a lot of former Traktor and Serato user, because of missing a simple way to move their master piece collection into Rekordbox.

My request feature: Full integration of Traktor (1#) and Serato (2#) collection & playlists in Rekordbox like it is available for iTunes.

Best regards

Claus

Hey Claus,

There are several 3rd party tools which make this transition possible, and in most cases, you won't lose anything (hot cues / crates / etc).

ATGR has a couple of tools depending on the application.

rekordcloud uses a cloud-based platform to migrate your data.

Rekord Buddy is an open-source option to convert your library into rekordbox.

As a Serato DJ since its inception, when I moved my collection over to rekordbox, I wanted to make sure it was done properly, and did not lose any grid changes or hot cues I added to the songs. While there is no built-in tool, these apps all provide great features I'd recommend you check out.

Hi Pulse,

Big thx for the hints!  Record Buddy is EOL since October 2020 and does not work properly with Rekordbox 6.x. I will try Record Cloud with the manual e-mail service since I am on Windows. As I mentioned in my opening post. This is a lot of “workaround” for a “newbee” and I belief that a lot of customers will not swap from Traktor to Rekordbox because of this inconvenient barrier.  An automatic integration of the Traktor library would be a very customer orientated move.

1000 THX for the support & solution!

I think ATGR is the best option. Its a one-time payment vs subscription, plus the developer, MixMasterG is a good dude. He is always in /r/rekordbox on reddit, so you always get support.

Thanks for the referral DJ Tchort, much appreciated.

Reddit is my soapbox, with /r/Rekordbox being on of the subs I frequent. I can also be reached for any collection management and conversion related questions though the ATGR FaceBook landing page or email.

I do "Ask Me Anything" live stream each Tuesday 07:00 PM CEST (=Amsterdam/Paris Time). Last week's stream was about the Rekordbox collection. This week will be about conversion of Mixed in Key cues (and more) to Rekordbox.

In answer to OP/Claus/DJ Puk:

All content creating software companies try to lock you into their ecosystem. DJ software companies are no exception to that rule. While "one open format DJ metadata description" would indeed be the sole solution, it's highly unlikely that this would ever see the light of day.

Each DJ software has its very own unique attributes, which are part of the ecosystem. For instance the Rekordbox memory- and hot-banks can only be found in  Rekordbox. Auto activation of memory loops is a Rekordbox exclusive, Traktor does not have user selectable cue colors, which other software has. Serato uses separate banks for cues and loops, where Rekordbox and Traktor can have these mixed in the same bank etc.

For that reason you'll always need to use conversion software like my tools, which will convert as much metadata as both platforms have in common.

My advice is to select the DJ software you feel most confident with and you have the controller for as "base software". Rekordbox is a fine choice for that. Convert from that base to others. Don't go "back and forth" between various DJ software because that will create a workflow that is impossible to maintain reliably.

Thanks for the comprehensive feedback to my question / suggested idea. I was not aware that the big three work so differently, but I understand the “don’t play in my sandbox” attitude of the companies. Who will be responsible if something does not work properly together? So, it is better to stay clean with one system / solution. I like your advice to stay with one solution. NI Traktor Pro 3 works very well with the XJD 1000MK2 and the certified HID integration, I will continue to use Traktor as it is my platform of choice since the last 15 years. But I still love the idea of Rekordbox leaving the PC at home. Hmm…it’s a bit like loving two girls (or boys, or x) …

Again, big thx for you both!

Cheers Claus / DJ PUK
