Ripping Vinyl on RX2

I've tried recording from vinyl to USB with an RX2.

I have the channel gain set to one or two amber bars, but I'm having to keep my Master level down a bit as it's coming through very loud through my monitors which are connected to the Master via XLR.

Firstly, is something set up incorrectly as I have to keep the master level down at -6db and I have tried ripping two tracks and they are playing back fine, but the level comes in a bit low. Can anyone help please? I only got the unit the other day so am new to it.

the master level doesn't affect the record level at all but the channel gain knob and channel faders do

I think Pioneer have attenuated the record level a little to help those that drive their levels a bit on the loud side so you might want to raise the level a little but if you're getting a reasonalble level to the recording you can always normalize it when post editing which I assume you will be anyway to trim and tweak the recordings?

Thanks for replying. I've noticed that the sound quality of the phono is not that great, even with a SL1200MK2 with high end phono leads. Obviously it will vary from one vinyl to another.
