Loading tracks

I recently purchased a DDJ - 400 controller. After installing rekordbox v4 I couldn't load tracks using the controller. The record box works but it looks like it's not configured with rekordbox. Could this be a problem with the unit or the software because it switches on when I connect it to my laptop but then the lights become dim as if it's on standby. How can I solve this problem?
