Computer/RB backup issue
C:\Users\Justin Is what my path is to "My Music" on a older computer I own. I have changed the name of the computer but can't seem to figure out how to change the path name to the new name.
My other computer that had RB on it was named Smith. That computer has been sent off to be repaired and I am stuck with my older computer that wasn't named Smith from the get go. As I said I went into Advanced Settings and changed the computer name to Smith but the path to MY MUSIC still reads C:\Users\Justin\Music and when I try to change Justin to Smith it tells me access denied.
How can I change Justin to Smith so I can migrate RB?
Also when my other PC comes back with a new HD or reformat done I will name it Smith and all should be good right? I saved all my music, a backup of my adjustments to the tracks (Beat grid, Title, artist etc...) and I also saved a copy of export playlist info. Did I miss anything?
Thanks

I figured it out.
Question, I had to change the Pioneer folder in settings right? Analyasis files.
Also, I have to reanaylize all the songs? It saved my cues and info doing this but the top beat grid wouldn't show up untill I anayalized again...
Also, some of the titles and all are in SMALL print while other songs have larger print size. Is this something I should be concerned about?
I'll have to do this once again when my other laptop comes back so... Did I do all this right or should I do something different next time?
I just noticed none of my art work was saved that I manually had to add on my old computer because of wav??? DOes this mean each time I move from one computer to another I loose my pictures? Maybe I did something wrong?
sorry to blow this up but my MP3 pictures are gone as well????
I fixed the font, forgot I did that on my last computer but I am still lost on the artwork and reanaylizing? Did I do this all wrong or what?
I can't even re ad the picture now...
Where should I save the Anaylize files? I made a new folder in MY MUSIC as the first path said JUSTIN.... I'm not sure I have that right, should it be saving to the thumb drive?
Tag list, tried finding a video (I DID< I FRENCH :-( how does this work, any videos out there?
Is my other issue because I didn't save my files in a play list? I hate to think I spent all this time and have to redo it...
OK, I think I got confused. I looked at the device (Memory stick option in RB) nothing is there. I think instead of saving my stuff through Devices I saved using Export Playlist Information and also selecting BACK up by clicking on FILE at top left.
AM I doomed? DO I have to re-do everything because I can't rescue my old computer now that it has shipped to be repaired.
Can saving that info that way help me not have to re-do it all? I had a bunch of videos saved but that was on my old computer... I'll need to go find those youtube help me guides...
I can't find this folder now for some reason... But I didn't do this too.. why can't RB be easier to work with? Just have a button (Transfer all data to new computer) Saves everything into a folder, put it on memory stick and drag and drop into RB on the new computer and everything works...
Crashes (folder) PIONEER (folder)
datafile.backup.edb datafile.edb dummy.edb license rekordbox.settings Upmgr rekordbox.settings
Copy everything EXCEPT The license file to a temporary storage medium in order to transfer it over to the other location.
I guess all is not lost, just pictures? I mean I can load all my music, drag the file that saved all my cues and comments, reanaylize all my songs and then redo the art work and then save it to thumbdrive? Still would like to know what export playlist info does... if not save my ass here? same with backup
I called ASUS, they state they will not reformat (Crosses fingers). Maybe I can get my computer back and all is not lost. Could someone provide video if possiable on the correct way to save to a thumbdrive etc...
I still can't get the artwork to work using the folder icon however I can drag and drop but once I leave that song it goes away...
SO if I loose my info on my other computer, I can't add pictures for some reason now to the artwork. Man, I think I really screwed this up...
Been sitting on hold with Pioneer, finally gave up before I waisted all my cell minutes... :-(
So it saved Memory but the beat grid is all messed up.
Man it only gets better! SO not knowing what to do... I reformated my old computer so the name and all would be the same... I started to move my tracks from my usb device to MY MUSIC Folder and for some reason it only moved a few. SO I tried again and it started to double the tracks up, no problem I'll just cancel the transfer, delete the MY Music folder tracks and start over. ERRRRRRR! I just deleted the tracks of the USB and not the MY MUSIC FOLDER! Just got done sending emails to the DL services to see if they would let me redownload my tracks! What an Fing day! Right now if I could kill RB I would! I'd beat it to a pulp and beat it some more! Just because!
I pray ASUS doesn't delete my HD! It might be my only hope!
There is a free tool called Recuva.
Try and run that with a "deep scan" on your USB, and see if you can recover your songs.
@Justin > Here is a suggestion for you:
I. If you still have the old computer, ...
N.B. don't select the root folder in the usb(ex. "E:\rekordbox" is ok, but "E:\" is not ok)
(db file: C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\Pioneer\rekordbox\datafile.edb
setting file:
C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\Pioneer\rekordbox\rekordbox.settings
conversion file:
C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\Pioneer\rekordbox\conversion.xml)
II. If you do not have the old computer, ...
create an user with "Justin" in your new computer.
put the PIONEER folder which is backed-up from the old computer into the folder
"C:\Users\Justin\AppData\Roaming\Pioneer\rekordbox" in the new computer.
"C:\Users\Smith\AppData\Roaming\Pioneer\rekordbox".
N.B. if you have already modified the location, change the location in
"rekordbox.settings" before the step 2,
like as following(open the setting file with a text editer software):
<VALUE name="pioneerDirectory"
val="C:\Users\Justin\AppData\Roaming\Pioneer\rekordbox"/>
(See attached file: pref.png)

Wicket, thank you. I did get a handful but mostly the ones that were saved before I deleted the wrong folder. Still, much could not be recovered (Partial and couldn't be played). I'm affraid ASUS or the DL services are my only hope... My luck both will fall through and I'll have to buy again! But thanks
Gavin, Thanks I'll do my best... ANy video on this that you know of? It might be a good idea to do a video if not (You or someone at Pioneer) that shows Dropbox and migrating etc... But thanks I will see what I can do
No, we've no official videos for this at present. We're hoping for a better implemented migration option built into Rekordbox in the future.
WOW, ASUS moves fast! The got my laptop Yesterday Morning, fixed it and sent it out that evening. I should have it Monday or Tuesday.
I called and I guess the issue was the mainboard, sound card and not the harddrive so THANK GOD! I still wont believe it till I get it.
I do have a question, I have a second HD on that computer I never use. ANd my SSD is almost full. How would I go about moving everything Pioneer/Rekordbox to the D drive from the C drive and not have any issues? Can this be done? COuld just changing the Drive letter work, not sure how to do that but... Or would that mess other things up? I did read migrating but both drives have to be C so...
Gavin. I'm not a computer guy. I'm a little lost even if what you wrote above should be easy to understand. That's why I asked for a video., Monkey see Monkey do lol. But hopefully my music is still on my old computer... I really would like a back up and would love to see a feature in RB where it's as easy as a click. Everything saves to a folder, you can put it on a USB or whatever... if your HD crashes or whatever all you have to do is install RB on the new computer and even if the Drive is A and not C RB can reconize it needs to change a few things and does when it imports everything. Maybe there is a way to make it even easier...
God help me if my HD dies as I have no saved back up. I thought i did but even reformating the old computer like my new computer I still had to show RB where the songs were located. But reformating did allow the pictures show up on some songs...
BTW I heard back from one of three Downloaded services who will allow me to re download. Speaking of, maybe Pioneer should offer a cloud service or back up service, all your info done on RB is saved online so if you ever need it for whatever reason your info/music etc is saved incases like mine. A button in RB (Save to Pioneer cloud) or (Download from Pioneer cloud.)
SO I tried to break down Migrating RB. My question is, each time I make an adjustment on Computer A what do I do to keep Computer B uptodate and current with Computer A? Delete all the files I put onto Computer B and keep repeating the steps each time?
As stated, I wish there was a cloud of some sort... Just push a button and everything in RB from settings to tracks is saved. If my HD dies or I delete my crap on accident all I have to do is DL from cloud to my newly installed RB and I'm off and running! The only thing I would have to worry about is if I saved my last session...
