Will I get any of the added functionality of the NEXUS when doing so, or am I better off tracking down a third 2000 and save the cash?

There is no linked benefit to using a single CDJ-2000nexus player, but you would have the additional features / changes made from the CDJ-2000 to the CDJ-2000nexus, such as improved waveform display, etc.
