External SSD via USB 2.0
Hi I currently suffer with slow USB 2.0 export speeds to sandisk USB sticks. I use these for most gigs but If I'm playing a 5 hour set I tend to take an external HDD out with me containing my entire collection. This drive is starting to become a little bit slow and I think its ready to die on me. As I'm running a 2011 Macbook pro I don't have USB 3.0. If I was to purchase an external SSD as a replacement for the HDD. Would I get faster write speeds? Has anyone tried this or does anyone do anything similar ? Thanks

You would CERTAINLY get faster speeds out of a USB3.0 device.
The write speeds are not dictated by rekordbox, but rather the device itself and the operating system. I use a SSD in a USB3.0 enclosure and it tears the bits and bytes off my "high-speed" USB2.0 device.
If you don't have a USB3.0 connection, you may find FireWire800 is faster than USB2.0 but ultimately, still not as fast as USB3.0. One thing you may consider is adding an ExpressCard with USB3.0 support.
Thanks Pulse for the quick response. I might look at the Express card option. At present am I correct in assuming that you can export from rekordbox to an external drive via Firewire and Thunderbolt?
Ooh, sorry -- I just remembered that my FW drive was my source, not my destination. No, the FW and Thunderbolt drives can't be export devices. :(
OK glad I checked!
