DDJ-SR controller - optical driver required on laptop to install Serato?

I have a Pioneer DDJ-SR controller and a laptop without an optical/CD drive.
Do I need a CD drive to get Serato set up? The manual says so, but conscious that most laptops don't have CD drives these days.
Also, the bundle that comes with the controller includes a Serato disc but it also says download the software from the Serato website. This may be referring to two different things - anyway, grateful for any guidance on this.
