Hey everyone. just about to make a decision on grabbing a XDJ-RX or a DDJ-RX
has anyone been using the XDJ-RX model?? and i want to ask everyone if

It will work with just a USB drive full of MP3s, but why would you buy an XDJ-RX to do that? To take full advantage of the XDJ-RX's features, you should by all means analyse your music in rekordbox! You'll not only be able to search and sort it, but you'll also have large overview and detailed waveforms with beat grids to better see and control your music.
As Pioneer stated, not using Rekordbox to properly analyse and setup the tracks, would be a complete waste, when you want to use Pioneer DJ equipment. Might as well just use your iPod then :)
I own a pioneer XDJ RX and I am very happy with it. I play on partys mostly with a USB stick what i Prepared with rekordbox before. You have also the option to use the xdj as a midi player for the performance mode in rekordbox.
