CDJ 2000 NXS traffic light.

What a cool devices...... just wondering how to setup the Key traffic light.  it should be done within the players.... but how :-)

PaulM72

Yep have to agree I've no idea how this should work because I don't see it either

Leee

I would also like to know this.

Karl Breen

I found the manual online and it has a brief description of how it works. its on pg33 of the english manual.

"When the KEY category is displayed, the key icon turns to blue for tracks whose keys are good matches to the key of the currently playing track."

Wilbert Kooij

Thanks, will try to find out and feedback. the manual could have been more detailed in regards to these gimmicks. I have not found out yet how to display the key.

Wilbert Kooij

Nope does not seem to work, sure I can search on key. But nothing turns bleu for the moment....

I am sure Pioneer can give a very good tutorial :-)

cdjbasile

Does it possibly mean you have to have the key id3 column selected as the field beside track in order for it to work?

cdjbasile

Or at a second look surely it means you select the key category from the menu, instead of track, playlist etc

Karl Breen

I'm not sure, I dont own a pair so I cant check. It says the key category has to be displayed so I presume its just the sort order by key (and not the ID3 tag column) within the player has to be active. Again if i had a cdj 2000nxs I could check but  I dont.

Karl Breen

@cdjbasile sorry didnt refresh so i missed your second message but yes thats what im getting at :D

Leee

I couldn't get it to work last night but will try it once I get home.

I really hope this feature works as it was something I was looking forward to.

Leee

Nope, I still can't get this to work.

Northrider 23

I think i got it to work.   Its a setting in rekordbox not on the player itself.

Open RB -> File -> Preferences -> Export -> Column -> Key (selected from drop down menu)

The key will be shown next to the track name on the player and it will turn blue for tracks whose key are a good match.

Wilbert Kooij

Hmmm did all you wrote but still it does not appear.. could you attach a pic where to find it on the player?

Wilbert Kooij

Found out how it works, Northrider 23 part is okay but on the player you need to select the playlist>>Click on Menu and list menu appears>>click on sort and scroll down to key and key appears on the second row.... and yes tracks with same key appear in blue.

Northrider 23

@ Wilbert

I exported the music to an SD Card.  The song highlighted green is the one playing on the other linked player.  The blue Keys are the matches.  Dont have a switch hub yet so my computer is not hooked up to the players.

Northrider 23

Cool.  didnt refresh in time to see your post....

Wilbert Kooij

Cool thanks for your answer mr Northrider 23...... Man am I enjoying these players!!

Northrider 23

No worries. Glad we figured it out.

Karl Breen

@ Northrider 23 yes that solution you gave was exactly what i was tryng to explain. Oh ill have to get myself a pair of these some day.

The traffic light thing seems pretty useless in its current state.

For one thing it only shows up when you sort by key, and for another it only tells you if the key is compatible with the track currently playing on that deck, not the linked one(s). IMO it would be much more helpful to have compatible keys always displayed by an icon, possibly just by turning the note icon on the left blue (or whatever colour). It would also be good if it told you which tracks were compatible with the one playing on the master deck rather than the track you've just played on the deck in question.

Phil

also, why is it called 'traffic light'? it has nothing to do with a traffic light system.

i would have expected at least some kind of red/green/amber colours which would indicate a great key match (green) compatible (amber) and not a good match (red)..... instead we just get 'blue'.

fullenglishpint

Oops, I was wrong, it does show relative to the master. Still should be displayed all the time though.

Northrider 23

@ Hersom.

I can see the key weather I select playlist, genre, bpm, etc. you have to make the selection for the key to show in a colum to the right of your primary selection.

Open RB -> File -> Preferences -> Export -> Column -> Key (selected from drop down menu)

@ Phil.
I was wondering the same thing in regards to the name and coloring system. Maybe they'll updated in the near future

fullenglishpint

Hmm but I like to have my comments in that column. Since it's a colour coded thing, it would make sense for either an icon or whatever happens to be in the right column to change colour if it's in key.

Wilbert Kooij

I really believe there is work in progress :-) it already makes it so much more fun..... I had the SC2900's for a very short time. The PIO's just make you smile.

Leee

This is one feature I was looking forward to but is not as I had hoped.

Surely it makes sense to use a green, amber and red system.

Gavin

Everyone, I've made this suggestion.

The feature isn't entirely apparent at the moment, in its current form.

Wilbert Kooij

Hai Gavin, since I am dutch and do not really understand..... What are you trying to say?

Gavin

@Wilbert > I think a Green / Yellow / Red system would work better than the Blue, indicating which tracks would mix well harmonically.
