The SR2 is marketed and sold as a Serato DJ controller, not a rekordbox controller. We have no plans to support the SR2 within rekordbox at this time, sorry.
So it would be impractical to purchase the full Rekordbox license for DDJ SR2.

Not just impractical, but the SR2 wouldn't work with rekordbox.
I really like Rekordbox ... I hope that Pioneer will in the future add a DDJ SR 2 compatibility plan for Rekordbox, just like DDJ SX, SB, SR...

As previously stated, there are no plans to support the SR2 with rekordbox at this time.
If you really prefer Rekordbox then your best bet is probably to sell the DDJ SR2 and buy a DDJ RR.
That would give you pretty much the same hardware unit with a full Rekordbox license.

Since each controller is made specifically for a different program the slight differences are in what functions are called and the effects.
So it falls back to the SR2 being aligned with the functions and features of Serato and the RR being aligned to Rekordbox.
Their differences being driven by the differences in the software with each controller pretty much having the same level of integration with it's host application.
