DDJ 1000 with turntables

Hi everyone. I've searched the forum for an answer to this but not sure I've seen one. I'm looking to buy a DDJ1000 and connect up my PLX500 turntables to it so I can mix between digital files and regular vinyl. I've read that the phono inputs on the DDJ are not great for regular vinyl. However, the unit should play vinyl fine if I switch the output on the PLX to LINE and do the same on the DDJ, ignoring the PHONO option. Does anybody know if this is right? Don't want to drop £1000 to find it doesn't do what I need. Thanks!
