Class Compliance - which controllers definitely work with iOS?

Hi all,

I currently have a Pio SB2 which I use with iOS DJ apps, and recently wanted to upgrade to a DDJ-RR. However, once received, I discovered that although the controller is mappable and 'seen' by the software, the soundcard ISN'T class compliant, and hence the unit is useless for iOS useage. It's a little strange that a budget controller such a the SB2 *is* CC, yet the more professional RR isn't.

I've been told that the DDJ-SR is CC, and I wonder if this can be confirmed and also whether or not the SR2 will be also?

If anyone else has had success with other Pio controllers, please let me know.

Cheers

@finger_jockey > Virtually all of the Pioneer DDJ controllers can be used as a MIDI device with an iOS device. Unfortunately, most of them require drivers on the host to function, so the majority do not work as audio interfaces with iOS. Controllers like the WeGO family were designed specifically for this purpose and those are the only ones we officially support as audio devices.

How was it you got the SB2 working with an iOS device? Even with a Y cable to provide external power from a wall adapter, I get an error message with the DDJ-SB/SB2/RB:

Hi there,
When I was using it, it was powered through a USB hub, but other than that I didn’t need to make any other changes. It must have just been good fortune that it worked for me. I can’t check it now as i’ve Sold it on, but even when I used Midi Wrench I never had any error messages.

What is the reason behind the budget controllers being CC, when the higher spec are not? Rekordbox for iOS is a great app and it seems a shame to limit its use to laptop users, especially now that iPad is becoming more powerful with every update.

Also, I don’t think i’m Unique in being able to use iOS, as had a few take ups of my mapping on DJTT.
