XDJ-RX3 Audio stutter and long buffer time/freezing
Had this issue pop up a few times but is increasing quite frequently. Sometimes the track on the RX3 will stutter for some time and then go back to normal. Along with this, when this is happening sometimes the controller will buffer and you cannot select a new song.
Have heard Samsung sticks have a tendency to do this, I use 3.1 256gb samsung metal usb sticks but have switched to sandisk to see if the problem persists.
I play at venues so this is not favourable and makes me almost scared to play at bigger gigs for fear of audio stuttering, lagging or freezing.

Hi there,
Does this happen when you play your XDJ-RX3 in standalone mode, or MIDI control mode with rekordbox?
Yves
I'm experiencing the same issue in standalone mode. I use Samsung 128G Metal USB but have never had the issue when playing on other systems whether it be RX3, XZ, 3000's, nor have I ever had the issue with the same track playing i.e, totally random.
In addition to the two issues described in the above post, I'm having an issue whereby the decks (happens to both) simple freeze. I can only resole by rebooting.
Hi there,
You say, 'I use Samsung 128G Metal USB but have never had the issue when playing on other systems whether it be RX3, XZ, 3000's', so are you saying the issues only persists with your RX3, and cannot be replicated with a different RX3?
If so please can you please file an inquiry ticket here and our support team will gather some additional information to assist you in resolving this issue.
Thanks Lewis, I've submitted a detailed report along with MP3 files and waveforms which, after my own investigation and subsequent clean-up of the recorded stream, point to the tracks 'Stop/Starting' rather than audio 'Dropouts'
Hi Ross,
Thanks, I've escalated this to HQ for further assessment. It could be static electricity causing interferences with the jog wheels, resulting in this 'stop-start' emulating a hand touching the top of the jog wheel.
Given the audio-path listed in the ticket info, can you try to isolate the issue by testing standalone with headphones for example?
Hi Lewis,
That seems a plausible cause - and one I'd not considered (largely due the myriad of suggestions out there on the www :-) )
Testing - Do you mean unplugging everything else from an audio output perspective and use headphones alone? Happy to do so but could take forever as its occurring randomly although more frequently. I've found over the last couple of weeks, removing the mains power cord and leaving off for 24hrs before I use again, does seem better for a while.
Hi Ross,
It happened to me years ago at a school I taught DJ at. Turned out that the newly installed mains plugs were not grounded sufficiently.
That information you've just shared seems to correlate further. It could also be the USB drive you're using due to it's all-metal casing, is holding a charge after long periods of use.
Hi Lewis,
So, on the mains grounding I'm going to put that near the low end of possibilities given I've experienced the issue at home in various rooms, at a friends and also twice (Only times it's played out) at hotel venues.
In saying that, and sticking with the general 'Static' theory - I've just noticed a terminal on the back of the RX3 three called 'SIGNAL GND'. I don't hear any 'static type noise' even when i crank it right up, no music playing but wondering what it is designed to do, and whether there me be an associated solution?
On the USB front, is there a tried and trusted method for discharging and potential static build-up ?
Hi Ross,
Understood. I'm waiting for a response from HQ regarding your support ticket. I'll wait until they can assess further and respond accordingly :)
Hi Lewis,
Wondering if you've had any feedback from HQ ?
I spent the weekend re-cabling my set-up and so far the issue above has not presented itself again. Luck? Potential fix with new cables? Jury is out on that however I was live streaming a radio show today when a completely different issue arose about 1hr 15 mins in.
Track loaded deck 1 playing fine, Tried to load up deck 2 and got the 'Loading' message which I've seen before and usually completes within a few seconds. On this occasion, over a minute later, still not loaded and then deck 1 stopped and froze.. Tried Stop/Start, Cue, even loading a new track but nothing. Had to do a complete power off/on cycle. Then happened again, although the second time I had the other deck loaded and switched over. After a while I was able to load onto the offending deck.
Would appreciate any support / guidance as I have another show to do on Friday and cant afford the same issue to arise mid way through
Hi Ross,
I'm sorry, HQ are working through a large backlog at the moment but I hope to hear back soon.
Have you tried seeing if this issue occurs with a different USB stick?
May I advise a work-around to your address your concerns?- Connecting a laptop via Link Export perhaps if possible.
You could also test this workflow in the meantime to try and isolate the issue to the USB drive?
Hi Lewis,
I've bought a Sandisk USB and loaded with a couple playlists only. Only used once but went ok (no stop/start/freeze issue) for a couple hours live stream. I will use same for Monday and Friday this week and report back, however as previously stated it's been an intermittent problem so I guess time will tell.
Is it likely to be the USB causing the secondary issue where tracks randomly stopped?
Hi Ross,
Good to hear no issues so far.
'Is it likely to be the USB causing the secondary issue where tracks randomly stopped?'
Hi Ross,
In trying to isolate the issue to the Behringer 204HD interface, does the glitchy sound occur with the Master 1 or Master 2 out when it's directly connected to an amplifier or powered speakers?
And is it noticeable from headphones too?
Additionally, if the issue only occurs with this Samsung USB, a static charge from the USB could be the cause.
It could also be due to the corrupted database in the USB or something could be wrong with the USB itself.
Hi Lewis
Quick update/refresh
ISSUE 1 - Glitchy sound which felt like rapid intermittent signal loss - identified as decks randomly stop/starting as if rapidly touching the platter. Resolved (seemingly) with alternative USB from Sandisk 👍 i.e, Issue not materialised since swapping out the USB. I will monitor and report back should the issue re-occur.
ISSUE 2 - Random deck freeze, 'Cue' and 'Start' buttons locked and requires system re-boot. I've experienced the issue when connected with or without the Behringer 204HD.
Output patching as follows;
Booth Out (both channels --> Behringer 204HD Interface, decent cables
Master 1 Out (both channels) --> Rokit 5 Monitors, decent cables
Master 2 Out (both channels) --> Powered subs, originally patched using some old cables (not great quality), replaced last week with decent ones and no issue since.
SUMMARY
Since the USB swap and Master2 output cable replacement, I've not experienced either issue although (they are/were both random occurrences) I've been unable to 'force' the events. In other words, so far so good however I'm monitoring closely and will report back if necessary.
In the meantime, I'd like to say a massive THANKYOU for your ongoing support and guidance 🙂
Great to hear, you're most welcome. Finger's crossed no further issues!
